I am often asked this question…. “You Did What?” But daring to try is the life’s blood of who I am. I decided one late summer’s day, when I had been lying in bed for months recovering from having my left cancerous femur replaced, I would become who I always dreamed I would be.
So as soon as my leg healed I began a ” Save My Soul Technology Business” based on not suppressing myself, ideas of dreams, people pleasing or making life perfect for others anymore was something of the past. Don’t get me wrong this didn’t happen in a flash it took time. But that is fine it is a becoming not magic. In that I also decided my dress, hair, and eccentricities that I had pushed down for years needed to come shining through. If you are going to be yourself, live your dreams, why not live them in technicolor! I was not going to live a life of black and white. I was not a black and white person. I love color the more the brighter the better. I love fashion and fabrics and art so I was going to paint, color or diddle in every manner of art I wanted. I love religion and have pursued and obtained a PhD in comparative world religions and love it. I love to read and I love Siberian Huskies so I enjoy all my time. I do it all in my six in heels and jeans and pearls and sometimes a sweatshirt … that is me.
Here is the reason for this blog today. Are you holding back on being you. Are you internally the girl with the interior dream of having tattoo’s and a mohawk or are you a California Beach Babe stuck in Michigan just dying to be set free. Russel Simmons the music mogal wrote and impressive book called “DO YOU” and it is brilliant. It states that in being the best you you can be you become successful. The one and only collection of cells that will ever house your soul, love and desires, you, become more fully willing to spread wings and become the you God intended. In becoming more fully you are able to dream and live that dream more completely. Mr. Simmons is a lover or yoga and eastern philosophy. He is a brilliant man and if you get a chance read his book. By being himself and not compromising he has turned his dreams into a multi-million dollar reality. Bingo. Finding your true self unleashes your personal power.
Unleashing your personal power allows you do succeed. Yes!
I try to leave my family out of these musing and teaching because my relationship with Col. is the most private and personal thing in my life. It is that beautiful, delightful secret that is only our’s to share. I would however like to share a gift he has let lose on the world and it is inspiring. When I met Col. he was young catholic school boy with big dreams always business minded always an entrepreneur! For his class project in high school he opened a book store in our local high end mall. He catered to the ladies who lunch set and was fabulous at it. When he went to sign the lease on the building he had built in the mall to hold La Bouqineste the mall manager was shocked to find this was a 16 year old kid and a member of Future Businessmen of America student and she had been working with him for weeks! As time passed he was on the verge of expanding into Marksville La. and problems struck the family. Since his father was the co-signer on the bookstore it had to be closed, life goes on, no harm no fowl. It had been wonderful, successful and set the tone for his entire life. Now this man became an officer and a gentleman, and engineer and a special ops troop and then he retired and went to work as a marketing director for Singapore Aerospace. He was the first occidental to be offered a lifetime contract with this wonderful company. So always working on the right side of his brain he was surprised on retirement that his left brain was so fully functioning that he could see full novels in his head as if they were a movie already made! He can sit down at a computer and pound our a novel that is exquisite in it’s multi-layered detail determined to be a masterpiece any great writer would be thrilled with. He paints and he is a great photographer with endless patience. Waiting for the hawk that hunts on our land to get just the right shot. He also writes poetry and thinks in pictures. The point is that he is becoming. In the eighties he became a successful business man that is what was expected; suits, cigars and mega deals, he did that with great success. But now on his own time he is a successful artist. He has always tapped into himself and as Mr. Simmons would say he is making sure to DO YOU.
The question is are you. Are you living the life you dreamed or the life you settled into comfortably. All of us have hidden dreams, we also have mortgages, bills, children and lives that cannot be compromised. Who said you had to compromise anything to DO YOU? Spend a weekend taking photos. Learn a new skill in a community college class. Take some courses in painting or poetry. Write the next American novel to shake the world. And then if you find that you are severely unhappy in your normal life make a five year plan to transition into a new life a new paradigm a shift in your consciousness and life that will allow you to blossom as a person. I have never met with a client that did not tell me how bogged down in life! That they can hardly find a minute for themselves much less find themselves. Well, here is the answer: as much as we love our children, our homes, our jobs, we must love ourselves more. It is life that you are meant to live, your life. The other things are lovely extensions of that life. The happier you are the happier your family will become. Life can be blooming and all excuses can be combated. Most stem from fear. Fear of a spouse or friend or parent who doesn’t believe in your dream or in risk. Risk is hard for people who grew up after World War 2 victory gardens and life were all they had time to concentrate on, survival was essential. However we are luckier. We have learned to find down time.
A man I admire and follow on twitter said yesterday that the modern family watches an average of four hours of television a day. Good heavens that is a part time job. That is the time you need to re-invent yourself take time to ask the big questions and DO YOU.
Antony Robbins was the man who tweeted that so follow him he is wonderful better yet read his book he can get you moving.
Now, I wish you the best of Saturdays. Do take some down time and think a bit on this blog. I wanted to let you know that Basic Missions has gone on twitter so please follow us. Here are our handles.
